Romney's Willie Horton

A Bay State convict freed this year allegedly killed a Washington State couple execution-style this week. Daniel Tavares served 16 years for murdering his mother and was released in June, then quickly arrested again on charges of assaulting prison guards. Tavares appealed his bail and was released in July, then fled Massachusetts for Washington, where authorities say he shot and killed Brian and Beverly Mauck.

The case could have political ramifications for Republican presidential candidate and former Gov. Mitt Romney, who appointed the judge, Kathe Tuttman, who released Tavares on "personal recognizance."
