When Kristin Maguire of Clemson takes on the chairmanship of the state Board of Education this month, she faces one obvious question: Why should a mother who home-schools her children lead the policy-making body for the public school system?
She dismisses that line of inquiry by saying she doesn’t want to talk about her children.
“I think my nine years on the board really will speak towards my commitment to making sure every child in the state has an excellent education,” she said.
