Citing a burgeoning Catholic population that has grown 42% since 2000, Bishop Michael Burbidge of Raleigh has announced that his diocese will build a 2,000-seat cathedral dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus. The project, which includes the development of a cathedral campus, is expected to cost over $75 million.
Following the construction of the new cathedral, Masses will continue to be offered at the current cathedral, which seats 320.
