Pope Francis has offered his condolences in a phone call to the
family of a American journalist killed by Islamic State militants in
Syria.
Vatican spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi said the Pope phoned relatives
of the late James Foley to console them for their loss and assure them
of his prayers.
