Barack Obama was all smiles in his carefully scripted message of congratulation to Queen Elizabeth II on her Diamond Jubilee. But at the same time as he recorded his message, his administration was actively undermining Great Britain at the annual meeting of the Organisation of American States (OAS), held in Bolivia. The OAS General Assembly, which includes the United States, has just re-adopted the 2010 “Declaration on the Question of the Malvinas Islands,” which backed Argentina’s call for negotiations between London and Buenos Aires over the Falkland Islands.

The Question of the Malvinas Islands

Under the provisions of resolution AG/RES. 669 (XIII-O/83), the General Assembly decided to continue to examine the Question of the Malvinas Islands indefinitely.

Thus, at its fortieth regular session, the General Assembly adopted AG/DEC. 65 (XL-O/10), which, as at the previous regular session, reaffirmed the General Assembly’s commitment “to continue to examine the topic at subsequent sessions until a definitive settlement was reached.”

DECLARATION ON THE QUESTION OF THE MALVINAS ISLANDS

(Adopted at the fourth plenary session, held on June 8, 2010)

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,

CONSIDERING its repeated statements that the Question of the Malvinas Islands is a matter of enduring hemispheric concern;

RECALLING its resolution AG/RES. 928 (XVIII-O/88), adopted by consensus on November 19, 1988, in which it requested the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume negotiations in order to find, as soon as possible, a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute;

BEARING IN MIND that in its resolution AG/RES. 1049 (XX-O/90), it expressed satisfaction over the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries;

RECOGNIZING that the accreditation of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, under CP/RES. 655 (1041/95), as a permanent observer of the OAS reflects principles and values shared by that country and OAS member states, which facilitate greater mutual understanding;

NOTING with satisfaction that the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland maintain important political, cultural and trade ties, share common values and are also engaged in close cooperation both bilaterally and in international fora;

BEARING IN MIND that, despite those ties and shared values, it has not yet been possible to resume the negotiations between the two countries with a view to solving the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas in the framework of resolutions 2065 (XX), 3160 (XXVIII), 31/49, 37/9, 38/12, 39/6, 40/21, 41/40, 42/19 and 43/25 of the United Nations General Assembly, the decisions adopted by the same body on the same question in the Special Committee on Decolonization, and the reiterated resolutions and declarations adopted at this General Assembly; and

HAVING HEARD the presentation by the head of delegation of the Argentine Republic,

WELCOMES the reaffirmation of the will of the Argentine Government to continue exploring all possible avenues towards a peaceful settlement of the dispute and its constructive approach towards the inhabitants of the Malvinas Islands.

REAFFIRMS the need for the Governments of the Argentine Republic and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to resume, as soon as possible, negotiations on the sovereignty dispute, in order to find a peaceful solution to this protracted controversy.

DECIDES to continue to examine the Question of the Malvinas Islands at its subsequent sessions until a definitive settlement has been reached thereon.

The inhabitants of the Falklands are more than 95 percent British and have no desire to be ruled by Argentina, a point that both the OAS and the Obama presidency are happy to ignore. This is a clear-cut case of self-determination, and the Obama administration's continuing support for a negotiated settlement (made abundantly clear by a senior State Department spokeman last week) is a slap in the face for both the Falkland Islanders as well as the British people. In his message to the Queen today, Barack Obama paid lip service to the Special Relationship, but his actions over the Falklands demonstrate that in practice he has nothing but disdain for America's closest friend and ally.

Earlier this week we celebrated Memorial Day. For most of us, the holiday informally marks the start of summer. Over the next three months families will take their vacations, the pace of life will slow a bit and people will have a little more precious time to relax and restore their spirits.

The purpose of recreation is to renew us in body and soul; to give us time to think; to reconnect us with family and the gift of being alive. For me, that usually means a week of fishing with friends, catching up on a pile of good books and enjoying a few good movies.

And since all good things are meant to be shared, I can already recommend — in fact, enthusiastically recommend — a film that no Catholic should miss this summer.

Obama’s Third-Party History

New documents shed new light on his ties to a leftist party in the 1990s.

On the evening of January 11, 1996, while Mitt Romney was in the final years of his run as the head of Bain Capital, Barack Obama formally joined the New Party, which was deeply hostile to the mainstream of the Democratic party and even to American capitalism. In 2008, candidate Obama deceived the American public about his potentially damaging tie to this third party. The issue remains as fresh as today’s headlines, as Romney argues that Obama is trying to move the United States toward European-style social democracy, which was precisely the New Party’s goal.

Michelle Obama Plans Racist Book Signing

We've been instructed by the Obamunists that requiring a photo I.D. of voters is racist and a suppression of voters' rights.  However, it has been revealed by a White House blog that those wishing to obtain an autographed copy of Mrs. Obama's book, telling us how we should be eating, are required to do much more.

Mrs. Obama will visit a Washington, D.C. Barnes & Noble on June 12 to autograph copies of her book about the White House kitchen garden.  Beginning on Friday, June 8th, those wishing to attend the book signing must purchase a copy of the First Lady’s book at the location (for $19.20) and leave it at the store, according to an employee.

At the same time, customers must also submit their social security number and show an official photo ID (drivers license, passport) to a Secret Service agent; they will then be issued a wristband permitting them to attend the First Lady's event.  Book sales and wrist banding begin at 9:00 AM on June 8.

Lindsey Graham Tells New York Times He Has 'Crossed the Rubicon,' Wants Increased Federal Taxes

John Kerry knows a useful idiot when he sees one.

The Worst Republican Senator, South Carolina's own Lindsey Graham, has told U.S. News & World Report that he is "OK" with increased federal taxes as long as they are used for the ever more voracious military-industrial complex.  According to the news magazine, Lindsey told "the New York Times he has 'crossed the Rubicon' on his party's long-held opposition to higher federal taxes."

He so loves to endear himself to the folks at the New York Times.

As we have said before, words cannot convey the contempt we have for this treacherous individual who refuses to represent the people who elected him, and who seizes every opportunity to collaborate with those standing against all that most South Carolinians believe. 

His betrayal is so massive, perhaps South Carolinians have trouble grasping its enormity, or perhaps we just need to be reminded:

• He has called his constituents "racists." 
• He supports amnesty for illegal aliens. 
• He has expressed support for the nationalization of US banks.
• His previous support for massive increases in federal taxes was under the guise of cap and trade legislation.
• He advocates the fingerprinting and imposition of ID cards for law-abiding Americans.
• He opposed efforts to make English the official U.S. language.
• His was the key vote ensuring the appointment of Marxists to the US Supreme Court.
• He supports the endless, undeclared wars that have bankrupted the United States and wants even more federal taxing and spending to pay for them.

 In 2014 South Carolinians will have the opportunity to replace this treacherous snake.  It's not too soon to begin working toward that goal.

Pope Pays Tribute to Queen Elizabeth on Her Diamond Jubilee

The Vatican released today a message from Pope Benedict XVI to Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of  her Diamond Jubilee.  The English-language text bears the date of 23 May.

"I write to offer my warmest congratulations to Your Majesty on the happy occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of your reign. During the past sixty years you have offered to your subjects and to the whole world an inspiring example of dedication to duty and a commitment to maintaining the principles of freedom, justice and democracy, in keeping with a noble vision of the role of a Christian monarch.

"I retain warm memories of the gracious welcome accorded to me by Your Majesty at Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh at the beginning of my apostolic visit to the United Kingdom in September 2010, and I renew my thanks for the hospitality that I received throughout those four days. Your personal commitment to cooperation and mutual respect between the followers of different religious traditions has contributed in no small measure to improving ecumenical and inter-religious relations throughout your realms.

"Commending Your Majesty and all the royal family to the protection of Almighty God, I renew my heartfelt good wishes on this joyful occasion and I assure you of my prayers for your continuing health and prosperity".
